Mockingbird & Wire is the largest youth-led literary magazine rooted in Texas, built on the belief that creative work should be accessible and taken seriously , especially when it comes from young voices. We publish poetry, prose, essays, fiction and photography by artists ages 13 to 19, celebrating work that carries both heat and heart. We’re drawn to pieces that take risks, discuss place and identity, and reflect the complexity of adolescence.

Founder & Editor in Chief

Rhea Brennan is a seventeen-year-old poet based in Houston, Texas, and a student in the creative writing program at Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Her work has appeared in The Weight Journal, Octopus Ink, Eight, and Cathartic Youth Literary Magazine. She also serves as a volunteer marketing coordinator for Books For Development, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing childhood literacy by providing books to communities across the globe. Guided by Pablo Neruda’s belief that “poetry is like bread; it should be shared by all, by scholars and by peasants, by all our vast, incredible, extraordinary family of humanity,” Rhea sees that ethos as the foundation of both her creative work and her commitment to accessibility in the arts.

It is this mission that inspired her to found Mockingbird & Wire, a platform for emerging teen artists across Texas.
